Pastor Wachagi Charles and his wife Muzaki Joan are the lead pastors of Body of Christ Ministries Mbale and founders of Christhome for Children and Food Bank (CCFB) in Mbale, Eastern Uganda, transforming their own stories of hunger and hardship into a mission of hope restored. Pastor Charles grew up experiencing severe hunger and poverty, losing two brothers to starvation. His path changed thanks to sponsorship from Pastor Joe Peters (USA), igniting a passion to break the cycle of poverty through education and spiritual guidance—a mission shared by his wife, Joan, who also faced a difficult start as an orphan.

Joan's story began in the bustling, beautiful but often unforgiving town of Mbale in Eastern Uganda, nestled near the majestic Mount Elgon. She spent her childhood in a single-room home with her single mother, Mama Rose. Mama Rose was a woman of fierce pride and limited means, trying desperately to provide a hired labor for wealthier families, but the lack of consistent income meant Joan often felt the sting of poverty. She was an orphan in all but name, growing up without a safety net.
The true hardship hit when Joan was just ten. Her mother, weakened by perpetual worries, old age and sickly. Joan without a clear family structure to fall back on, Joan found herself navigating the tough streets of Mbale alone. She learned early that survival required sharp wits and hustle. So, she started small, selling sachets of water or roadside snacks near the taxi park and this is how she met with Charles.
